What Can You Expect to Learn in the Course?

In the first series of 6 sessions you will be introduced to basic techniques for making jewelry out of silver and bronze metal clay. Each session will be based on few introductory words, demonstration, and a lot of supervised practice time. You will make a few pieces of jewelry using project sheets that will be handed out to you. These sheets include an illustration of the piece and general guidelines, leaving plenty of room for your imagination, and are intended to enable each student to progress at their own pace. The projects of this course were chosen so as to cover topics such as layering, texturing, carving, engraving, shaping 3-dimensional hollow forms, making and using texturing molds, stone setting, and more. The pieces will be fired at for you at my studio and returned to you the following session. From the second session on you will learn and practice finishing techniques.

If you wish to sign up to more sessions, every subsequent series of 6 sessions will allow you to learn and practice more techniques, as well as explore more possibilities in the topics that were introduced in the first series. New topics include setting natural stones, using a torch for firing low-shrinkage silver and soldering, incorporating other metals such as copper, brass, and bronze, and different techniques of introducing color, such as concrete inlay and resin enameling.

There is no requirement to stick to the projects offered in the course. If you wish to do different things I will do my best to help you create your own designs, after you've acquired some basic techniques.

You can join the class anytime. The classes are ongoing and the levels are mixed. I work individually with students according to their needs and interests.

The classes are usually taken once a week. Six sessions have to be completed in 6 weeks. If you miss a class you can make it up on another day in the week or take 2 classes on another week, provided there is room in that class, but no later than the 6th weeks of the period you signed up for. Drop-in classes are also and option.
